What is the SPIES Project? The purpose of the SPIES curriculum is to introduce adults to intervention strategies that can be used with preschool children with disabilities, special health needs or who are at risk for the development of a disability. Using everyday settings as the context for intervention, we introduce strategies adults can use to help children to master their IEP or IFSP objectives. The SPIES curriculum was developed with funding from Grant No. H029K50148 from the U.S Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services. (No official endorsement should be inferred.) Utah State University provided support for development. SPIES was field tested by staff of agencies in several states. They included Head Start, child care, family members of children with disabilities, preservice students, and personnel from a variety of disciplines who served typically developing children and children with disabilities. Field test information is available from Project Director Sarah Rule. Artwork reprinted by permission from Circles of Friends. By Robert and Martha Perske. Nashville: Abingdon Press. |
